An ElectroThermal Digital Twin for Design and Management of Radiation Heating in Industrial Processes
The design and management of thermoforming systems based on radiation heat transfer require the development of a mathematical model that can be used at all stages of the system's life cycle. For this reason, in this paper, we present a digital twin based on a hybrid ElectroThermal model that can integrate mathematical equations and data acquired in the field. The model's validity is verified with experiments performed on a test bench. The presented model is modular and can be easily used to represent new configurations of the heating elements for simulation and design. Thanks to the low computational complexity of the proposed Digital Twin, it enables the development of advanced control strategies and the analysis and optimization of the main geometric parameters of the system. In addition, it can support the identification of the best configuration and choice of measurement points
Towards a comprehensive framework for V2G optimal operation in presence of uncertainty
As the global fleet of Electric Vehicles keeps increasing in number, the Vehicle To Grid (V2G) paradigm is gaining more and more attention. From the grid point of view an aggregate of electric vehicles can act as a flexible load, thus able to provide balancing services. The problem of computing the optimal day-ahead charging schedule for all vehicles in the fleet is a challenging one, especially because it is affected by many sources of uncertainty. In this paper we consider the uncertainty deriving from arrival and departure times, arrival energy and services market outcomes. We propose a general optimization framework to deal with the day ahead planning that encompasses different kind of use-cases. We adopt a robust paradigm to enforce the constraints and an expectation paradigm for the cost function. For all constraints and cost terms we propose an exact formulation or a very tight approximation, even in the case of piece-wise linear battery dynamics. Numerical results corroborates the theoretical findings
Identifying a greenhouse climate model by using subspace methods
This paper presents the development of a climate dynamics model for a greenhouse located on the Bogota plateau. A black-box model was estimated from experimental data, considering a novel system structure derived from a first principles model and experimental tests. It considered two control volumes, one given by the air over the crop and a second one formed by the air trapped by crop foliage. The model was selected from a set of linear, discrete-time, state-variable systems using subspace identification methods. The estimated system was able to predict climate dynamics for both control volumes, having errors below 8%. Such performance was comparable to previous work reported in literature while the obtained model was a low-complexity linear system.

Energy price forecasting for optimal managing of electric vehicle fleet
Defining tools and algorithms to support the decision-making process for charging electric vehicles (EVs) is a fundamental theme for the spread of EVs. Utilities can use this approach to incentive or discourage the charge of EVs according to different constraints. In this study, the authors refer the EV clusters or fleets, where there is only one energy buyer for all the clusters. This approach corresponds to an indirect method based on prices to induce behaviours in the management of charging on clusters of EVs. The first actor of the algorithm is an aggregator of EV fleet operators acting as a dealer between the electricity market and consumers. A theoretical game model based on Stackelberg's formulation is proposed to capture the interaction between the fleet operator and the owners/drivers of the EVs. A bi-level optimisation problem arises to represent the game between the agents involved: at the upper level, the aggregator maximises its benefits, while the lower level represents the behaviour of rational drivers as a fleet. The proposed method is applied to actual data obtained observing the behaviour of a car-sharing fleet
From Model-Based to Data-Driven Filter Design
This paper investigates the filter design problem for linear time-invariant dynamic systems when no mathematical model is available, but a set of initial experiments can be performed where also the variable to be estimated is measured. Two-step and direct approaches are considered within both a stochastic and a deterministic framework and optimal or suboptimal solutions are reviewe
